I'm not your typical real estate agent. I have never worked for a
traditional real estate company. I consider myself a husband, a dad,
and an entrepreneur first. I also happen to run a Discount Real Estate
company of my own creation.
Lately, the profession Real Estate
Broker has been ranking at or near the bottom of the annual Harris
Interactive poll of professional prestige ( 2008 | 2009 ).
Of course different people can interpret polls in different ways, but
my interpretation of this poll is that consumers seem to believe
something in the way real estate is bought and sold could stand
improvement.
One of my goals in starting this company is to
begin the healing process between the general public and real estate
practitioners in Northwestern Wisconsin -- to provide great services at
prices far below what people believe possible. Discount real estate is
a movement gaining momentum nationwide. According to the 2008 National
Association of Realtors Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, 18% of
sellers nationwide used limited-service brokers such as Discount Realty
Works to sell their home.
Perhaps doing what I do can help nudge
the reputation of real estate agents and brokers up, if even a little,
if only in Northwestern Wisconsin. Is it working? It's too early to
tell, but evidence here and here seems to indicate that I'm onto
something.
Offering real estate services at affordable prices is
a growing need. My clients are thrilled that I do what I do, and that
is a huge incentive for me. Running Discount Realty Works is the
intersection of three areas of interest for me: real estate,
technology, and marketing.
I am motivated by money, but I am
more motivated by growing my business over the long term and helping
people save money when they buy or sell.
I give my honest
opinion when people ask for it; I don't just tell people what they want
to hear. I am not eternally, unreasonably optimistic. I'm not good at
BS, nor do I enjoy the act or process of "selling." I'm not into
fashion or looks; I'm into usefulness and common sense.
Regardless of what else has happened in a given day, a day I meet with a new client is invariably a good day.
That's how I know I'm doing what I was meant to do.
